shape and texture gators
First graders are learning about texture in a whole new and exciting way. We read multiple books about alligators and talked about actual and implied texture. They then drew a gator, step by step breaking it up into simple shapes, and they all came out looking so unique! They then added implied texture using lines and shapes into their gators with crayon and pastel. They could then paint their gator whatever color(s) they desired! The next step was the background; first they drew a wavy line, sponge painted the bottom of the paper for a muddy mound or sand, and used texture plates and blue crayon for the sky. They cut their gator out and glued it to the background. The last step was some tissue paper actual texture.
