salvador dali INSPIRED birds
Kindergarten and first graders learned about the artist Salvador Dali and his surrealistic art. They learned about him through looking at his artwork and discussing it, watching a short video of a tour of the Dali museum and lots of conversation about his unusual art and use of line, shape and color. In particular we looked at this artwork of the elephants with the really long legs and the sunset background and used it for inspiration. They choose warm or cool colors and did some chalk rubbing, then painted over the chalk with watercolors using the same warm or cool colors they choose. They then practiced on a worksheet drawing Salvador Dali style birds using line a shape. They then used their drawings to re-draw at least three birds on their painting making sure they have a beak, wings, feather, an eye and they can add a hat or hair is they wanted to. The last part was to add really long legs just like Salvador!
