Reggie Laurent Inspired Winter olympic's silhouettes
First graders learned a compilation of many things during this project. They learned about the artist Reggie Laurent and his artwork where he uses both geometric and organic shapes, lines and lots of bright colors. They then drew lots of geometric and organic shapes on a white piece of paper, cut them out and glued them on a black circle piece of paper. They had to arrange their shapes really close together, and to fit intertwined. They then painted using bright colors, they painted full shapes, lines, dots, lots of little details, in the style of the learned artist. The last step was we read a book about the Olympics and had a conversation about the winter Olympics, they choose a silhouette image of an Olympic activity and drew it on black paper, cut it out and glued it onto their circle, just as Reggie Laurent did with his Micheal Jordan silhouette.
