Fourth graders used line and movement in a totally different way. They created a landscape using repetitive line to show movement, or create the illusion of movement. We looked at photographs of landscapes and the natural movement lines that nature creates on its own. The requirements were to draw a landscape consisting of just nature, without animals. Their landscape needed to have a foreground, middle ground and background and they needed to have at least two sections with repetitive line. They did two/three sketches of ideas in their sketchbooks, then choose the best one and redrew it on a final draft piece of paper in pencil. They then had to trace the pencil lines with marker, realistic or not. The last steps were to add more solid color with colored pencil and mount it onto a piece of construction paper of their choice.
