Second graders continued to learn about line and symmetry and the meaning of a Mandala. We looked at Mandalas made in nature, painting of Mandalas and watched traditional videos on the Tibetan tradition of Mandala making. Within these examples we looked for different types of lines, patterns, and talked about how they are symmetrical. They then made their own Mandalas; they started with making at least four circles that fit within each other with a protector. They then added different types of lines and shapes in each circle and a center design. The next step was to carefully trace over their lines with white paint. The last step was to add color with colored chalk.
