Grid Leaf Drawing
Second graders started this project by learning how to draw by observation, using the element of line and shape. They practiced drawing exactly what they see by looking at real leaves and drawing every line, shape, crinkle, hole, etc. They then moved onto their final draft and, they first made a grid on big paper measuring every two inches vertically and horizontally. They then had to use one of their leaf sketches and re-draw it enlarged over their grid. They then had to fill in the leaf with color using a combination of markers, colored pencil and crayon and adding different types of line within the leaf. They then used sharpie, pencil and white crayon for the background; they filled in each box with a different type of line or shape and spreading out the use of black whit and grey. This was a very time consuming project that they completed in a beautiful way!
