First graders learned how to “mesh” music and art. We started by simply observing different types of music and how it made us feel, if we were to draw/paint what types of lines, shapes and colors we would use. They then meshed the two together and drew/painted to different types of music with the way it made them feel at the time. We talked about how different “expressive” lines can be used for different sounds such as a soft continuous line with a soft music and a zig zag line all over the paper with rock and roll, and everyone has a different take on music and how it makes them feel. After they created their background they choose their favorite instrument or made up their and created them out of geometric and organic shapes to add to their beautiful background.
